FAUNA
--
Fauna is a range of animal figures inspired by and created from rocks found in the Nordic countries. We found that many of the earth-tone colors present in the rocks are also present in the native fauna. The inherent colors and patterns in the stone where used to make the characters come to life. The choice of animals fell upon humble, but also distinct animals with strong characteristics that are close to heart. The interpretation of the bullfinch bird, red fox, puffin bird and hedgehog have been made into one simplified figurative series and one more abstract series within the shape of a square.
The Fauna series is largely made up of granite, one of the most common types of rock found in the north. It is hard and tough, just as the climate in the northern hemisphere. Working with stone on a scale this small is a challenge, so using a harder type of rock such as granite enabled us to create more precise cuts and details.
Hege says "working with materials that are millions of years old to create something new, gives us both respect and inspiration".
The project was especially developed for the 100% Norway exhibition in London in 2015. One industrial and one graphic designer – two siblings; we have joined our creative forces to work on this project.
