DUO- acoustic sofa for L.K.Hjelle
Duo is a sofa that can be flipped up to double the height. You can adjust the sofa like you would adjust the collar of a big common jacket. In flipped mode two sofas facing each other
create a sheltered space for intimate and informal meetings. It’s a setting you’d approach with caution. In regular mode the sofas are just sofas. Sometimes you want a shelter, sometimes you want a free flowing space with less obstructions. You could also flip half the sofa and leave the other half down.
Due to the acoustic properties of the top cushions the inside the sofa is shielded from noise and the atmosphere becomes more focused. The high walls of Duo will also function as a sound diffuser in the landscape outside the sofa. Difference between inside and outside in texture and color creates more drama in the transition between regular and flipped mode.
The sofa was originally created for a acoustic furniture project at Beyond Risør in 2008. Duo is co-designed by Hallgeir Homstvedt & Norwaysays and manufactured by L.K.Hjelle.
